Fireside poets

These poets were the first group of American poets to rival British poets in popularity in either country. Fireside Poets primary subjects were the domestic life, mythology, and politics of the United States. The most recognized Fireside Poets were Oliver Wendell Holmes, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, William Cullen, John Greenleaf Whittier, and James Russell Lowell.
