Harlem RENAISSANCE
The Harlem Renaissance, or the New Negro Movement, is an important part in African American literature art because of the large poetry writers among African Americans. It started shortly after World War I in Harlem. Most of the poets from the Harlem Renaissance wrote about their experiences and struggles they had to go through with racism. Poets from this movement include Langston Hughes, Claude McKay, and Gwendolyn Brooks. Due to Brook’s poetry, the Black Arts Movement was soon later sparked in the 1960s.
