Modernism
The Modernism movement occupied the years from shortly after the beginning of the 20th century through around 1965 in Europe. Modernism was in motion after a cultural shock from World War I. The machinery of modern society was thought as impersonal, capitalist, and the antagonistic to the artistic impulse. Modernism poets had a desire to break away from the past and reject literary traditions that seemed outmoded and fit their poetry for an era of technological breakthroughs and global violence. Poets from this movement include Robert Frost, E.E. Cummings, and William Carlos Williams.
