Modernismo movement
The Modernismo movement began in the late 1800s in Latin America and spread to Spain in the first decades of the 20th century. Most of the poems from this movement are in Spanish because of its Latin origin. In Modernismo poems, exotic landscapes and symbols of nobility and aristocracy tend to appear. These symbols were meant to emphasize the materialism and vulgarity of everyday life by creating a world of unadulterated beauty. Poets from this include Jose Marti and Antonio Machado.
